Construction Update
Have you checked out the live feed of our new health center? It may be getting colder outside, but construction is still well underway. We are anticipating moving into the health center in early 2024!
At our last site visit, we were thrilled to see some amazing progress! The glass for our beautiful future atrium has been installed, while the drywall in the atrium is also nearing completion. The building is now connected to hydro and we are excited to say that landscaping has also begun.
The new health centre will be an extremely special building, surrounded by First Peoples landscape including indigenous plants, healing gardens and therapeutic spaces. The urban Indigenous community we be able to enjoy a sweat lodge and ceremonial ground in this new space.
Throughout the build we have prioritized creating group meeting and counselling spaces to support group-based programs and sharing circles that are central to Indigenous traditions and programs. There will be a dedicated space for a teaching kitchen, physiotherapy and health promotion to allow for hands-on healthy cooking demonstrations and exercise programs. In addition to this we will also have a new child assessment and play therapy facility to treat cognitive and neurodevelopment problems. There will also be space for expanded services including an Indigenous Palliative Care service and a Program for Two Spirit, LGBTQ Clients.
We are excited by the upcoming move and looking forward to the day we can host donors and guests!
