A HOLISTIC RESPONSE TO COMPLEX HEALTH CHALLENGES
The legacy of residential schools, the Sixties Scoop and other colonial policies continues to impact generations of Indigenous families. Disconnection from culture, identity, and community has led to complex health and social challenges. Today, nearly 90% of Indigenous people in Toronto live below the low-income line. Many experience homelessness, unemployment, and barriers to education, all which are conditions that contribute to chronic illness, mental health struggles and higher rates of premature death.
Despite these many challenges, Indigenous people are resilient.
Anishnawbe Health Toronto supports clients to reconnect to health and community, as well as regain access to and strengthen their traditional ways of life, including health and healing practices once banned by government policies and laws.
Emerging evidence suggests that Indigenous-led health service partnerships improve holistic health outcomes for Indigenous Peoples, that’s why unique spaces like AHT are so crucial and why our foundation exists and why we count on your support.
For over 30 years, Anisnawbe Health Toronto has provided care that blends western medicine with traditional healing. This Indigenous led model of care addresses the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual aspects of health, recognizing in most cases healing is uniquely personal and not a one size fits all answer.
