Anishnawbe Health Foundation Celebrates Campaign Success on National Philanthropy Day

On November 15, as part of National Philanthropy Day celebrations, Anishnawbe Health Foundation (AHF) announced some very exciting news! We have officially exceeded our inaugural campaign goal and raised over $10.3 million. At the heart of this campaign was raising funds to build a new home for Anishnawbe Health Toronto. A purpose-built facility with connection to land, light and ceremony will further support the reclamation of culture and identity as well as health and healing for the urban Indigenous community.

Pre-celebrations kicked off with a surprise video message to Anishnawbe Health donors, volunteers and staff from Andre Morriseau, AHF Board Chair, informing them first about the incredible news. Early in the morning on National Philanthropy Day, a press release was issued to Indigenous media via NationTalk news. And, in the afternoon, Anishnawbe Health staff were treated to a meal by Indigenous Chef Joseph Shawana at each of our three locations. To end the day, the #AHF10M Contest was announced via social media, encouraging community to tell us what the future home of Anishnawbe Health Toronto means to them using the hashtag #AHF10M. We had many great comments including, “A place to feel safe and get the help you need”, “a brand new modern space to feel safe and accounted for while enjoying the beautiful staff that will take care of me with nothing less than love and compassion in there,” and “healing, hope, community and love all in one place.” Congratulations to our winner Ladii Gee, who won a $250 gift card to PachaArts.com, an Indigenous Arts Collective.

It goes without saying that the success of this campaign is a direct result of the generous and kind investment of time and money from our volunteers, donors, staff and the Indigenous community at large. We could not have achieved this goal without you. Chi-Miigwetch!

On behalf of all of us at Anishnawbe Health Foundation, thank you for helping to grow a dream into the promise of a brighter future. We look forward to updating you on our progress on the new building set to open in the summer of 2023, and to continuing our journey with you on this road to reconciliation.
