Ed’s Real Scoops National Indigenous Peoples Day Fundraiser
In the heart of Toronto’s vibrant community lies a beloved institution that not only serves up delicious treats but also embodies the spirit of giving back. Ed’s Real Scoops, renowned for its artisanal ice creams and nostalgic charm, recently embarked on a heartfelt initiative with the Anishnawbe Health Foundation. On National Indigenous Peoples Day Ed’s Real Scoops donated $1 from every purchase to the Anishnawbe Health Foundation—a gesture that underscores their commitment to supporting Indigenous health and wellness initiatives. A huge thank you to Ed’s Real Scoops and all their customers who helped raise over $2,500!
We sat down with Steve, the general manager of Ed’s Real Scoops to delve deeper into the inspiration behind this meaningful fundraiser and its impact on the community.
Tell us about your fundraiser with Anishnawbe Health Foundation, why was it important for you to raise money for them?
For the last four years Ed’s Real Scoop hosted a fundraiser where $1 from every cup, cone and milkshake sold all day is donated to the foundation. At Ed’s, we support local children’s teams, school events and silent auctions during the year. In 2021 we made the decision to extend that support to a local Indigenous charity. After some research, we learned about the amazing work that AHF does in the city and were excited to partner with them! Since then, we’ve raised just over $10,000 with these annual fundraisers.
What does National Indigenous Peoples Day mean to you?
National Indigenous Peoples Day is a day to recognize, reflect and celebrate Indigenous culture. For us, that meant drawing attention to the day by encouraging our customers to participate in the fundraiser at the store.
How do you engage in reconciliation in your everyday life?
Personally, I find a connection to arts and culture. I feel one of the best ways to learn more about our history, relate and engage with each other is through art, food and stories.
What’s your favourite ice cream flavour at Eds Real Scoop?
That’s a tough one- it changes all the time. Red Hot Chili Chocolate gelato is a favourite for sure. Our most popular ice cream flavour is Burnt Marshmallow ice cream though!
Check out Ed’s for some delicious and homemade ice cream, gelato and sorbet!
