National Indigenous History Month (June): The entire month of June is designated as National Indigenous History Month in Canada. It is a time to honor the history, heritage, and diversity of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples.
National Indigenous Peoples Day (June 21): This is one of the most significant days of the year for Indigenous Peoples, it is an occasion to recognize and celebrate the unique heritage, diverse cultures, and outstanding contributions of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples.
Summer Solstice (June 21): The summer solstice is the longest day of the year and is a time of great cultural significance for many Indigenous peoples in Canada. It is often marked with ceremonies, celebrations, and events that honor the connection to the land and the changing of the seasons.

Indigenous Arts Festival: Taking place at Fort York National Historic Site, this festival runs from June 18-19 and features traditional and contemporary Indigenous music, dance, artisan markets, and culinary experiences. It includes the annual Na-Me-Res Pow Wow and performances by artists such as JUNO Award nominees Beny Esguerra and New Tradition Music.
National Indigenous Peoples Day:
On June 21, there will be a sunrise ceremony at Nathan Phillips Square starting at 5:30 a.m. The event involves a sacred fire, traditional ceremonies, and the reading of the National Indigenous Peoples Day Proclamation. Additionally, the Toronto Sign will be illuminated in red to mark the day.
Also on June 21, you may join the Native Canadian Centre of Toronto (NCCT) for National Indigenous Peoples Day, this free event features award-winning musical performances, traditional pow wow dance and drumming, and an Artisan Marketplace showcasing Indigenous artists and vendors.
